What it is
Gym Journal is a personal strength training log. It's not a social fitness platform, a coaching app, or a nutrition tracker. It does one thing: helps you record your workouts and see how you're progressing over time.
What you can do with it
- Log workouts quickly. Add sets, reps, and weight for any exercise during or after your session. The interface stays out of your way.
- Build and manage routines. Create routines for your training days, add exercises, and adjust them as your program evolves — without rebuilding from scratch.
- See progress over time. Each exercise shows max weight and total volume charted across sessions, so you can tell at a glance if you're moving forward.
- Keep your exercise history. Every exercise retains its full log. You can scroll back months and see exactly what you did on any given day.
What it isn't
Most fitness apps have turned into platforms. They want your attention, your social graph, and a monthly payment. Gym Journal is the opposite of that.
- No subscription. There's no monthly plan, no premium tier, no features locked behind a paywall that grows every year. You pay once and you're done.
- No AI bloat. Gym Journal doesn't suggest workouts, generate plans, analyze your form, or bolt on AI features for the sake of having them. You know how you want to train. The app just records it.
- No social feed. There are no followers, no likes, no sharing, no discovery algorithm, no influencer workouts. What you log is yours and nobody else's.
- No ads. The app doesn't show advertisements. You paid for it — it works for you, not for advertisers.
- No in-app purchases. Every feature is included with your one-time purchase. Nothing is locked, upsold, or gated behind a second payment.
- No feature bloat. No gamification, no streak pressure, no push notifications nagging you to open the app, no onboarding quizzes. Open it. Log your workout. Close it.

Lifetime updates are included. If we add features, fix bugs, or ship improvements, you get them automatically — no upgrade fee, no questions asked. We stand behind the app and we'll keep supporting it.
We built it this way because that's what we'd want as customers. Fitness apps have trained people to expect a monthly fee just to access their own data. We think that's backwards.

Who built it
Gym Journal is an independent app built by a lifter who got tired of fitness apps that were either too complicated, too social, or charging monthly fees for a spreadsheet with a logo. The goal was simple: build the app that should already exist. A clean log. A way to see the numbers go up. Nothing else.
